The Leading Glamping Experience in Dorset
Here at Stock Gaylard, we’re committed to providing customers with the best glamping experience in Dorset. Our glamping holidays are designed to give you the space and freedom to enjoy yourself, relax, and return home feeling fully recharged. Nestled in the great Dorset countryside wilderness, you’ll be at one with nature as you sit back and reflect on life while enjoying one of our stunning chalets or yurts.
Stock Gaylard is a small, traditional estate situated just over four miles from Sturminster Newton and eight miles from Sherborne in Dorset. The estate spans 1,800 acres with around 300 acres of predominantly oak woodland. There’s an additional 80 acres of common land and an enclosed 80-acre deer park, complete with a small lake.
For the last two centuries, country sports have been hosted on the estate, so the woodlands and hedgerows were preserved for this purpose. Because of this, today, Stock Gaylard is home to vast, unspoilt natural scenery that encompasses modern dairy farming, with several Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
So, it’s logical that Stock Gaylard would be the perfect venue for those wilderness retreats. We should be your first port of call if you’re keen to experience luxury glamping holidays.
We have a terrific range of yurts to choose from and some rather eccentric options you might not expect, like a converted double-decker bus. And if glamping is not your style, we have a range of chalets by the sea, too. There’s something for everyone, and you can learn a little more about what to expect from the glamping experience and our available options below.

What to Expect When Glamping in Dorset
You’ve heard all about glamping and are eagerly planning your first getaway with Stock Gaylard. Let’s talk a little more about what you can expect from your glamping experience in Dorset. First, you’ve heard us mention our yurts above, but what is a yurt?
A yurt is a circular tent of felt or skins erected on a collapsible framework. Nomads traditionally use yurts in Mongolia, Siberia, and Türkiye. These tents fit with our ethos of conservation, privacy, and preservation. They cause no permanent damage to the land, and the dark green colour of the canvas harmonises perfectly with the environment.
Our yurts are located in idyllic surroundings and offer the perfect way to enjoy this unspoiled and stunning scenery. While staying in one of our glamping tents, you’ll likely glimpse the abundance of rare animal and plant life species that make their home in the hedgerows and woodlands right next to our yurts.
You’ll have ample opportunities to soak up the sights and sounds of nature while you unwind and relax as you roam around the estate. Take in the area’s splendour, then fall asleep to the sound of silence.
All our glamping yurts honour the tradition of where they originated from. They are all modelled on the Mongolian Ger, which was first created over 2,500 years ago. These tents are still used by people today, almost 2/3 of the population of Mongolia. We sourced as many raw materials locally as possible when building our yurts.
This includes the ash wood for the steam-bent latticed wall sections, roof poles, and crowns of our yurts. This wood comes from the estate woodland, and every tree is replanted to ensure sustainability. All our yurts were expertly crafted by Jamie Ross, a well-known and renowned local furniture maker – he also designed much of our yurt furniture. Cath Pratley made all the covers for our yurts.
Each of these tents is spacious and inviting, with ample space to sleep an entire family or more. They are set up on raised wooden platforms in groups of three or four, each with a double bed and two singles, plus a futon and a kitchen/ living yurt. All our tents are stylishly and individually furnished – who says camping in a tent means sacrificing the comforts you enjoy at home?
Plus, we ensure that all your needs are provided for, including:
- Mains Water
- All Bedding
- Solar Lighting and Torches
- Small Gas Camping Fridge
- Campfire with Log Seating
- Bath Under the Stars with Hot Water Tank and Gas Shower
- Gas Hob in Living Yurt and BBQ with Start-up Charcoal
- And More
And to top it all off, our yurts are equipped with indoor and outdoor solar-powered lighting. A wood-fired boiler provides the hot water, all this fitting in with our drive to minimise environmental impact while providing comfort, luxury, and serenity.
Below, you’ll find a list of all our yurts; you can find more details about these on our website:
Parsons Camp is a unique option, as instead of tents, your accommodation is a converted double-decker bus. While Sawpits boasts a traditional Western-style wagon.
The Green Man Pub
While enjoying one of our luxury glamping holidays in Dorset, check out The Green Man Pub. This wonderful pub is located in the village of Kings Stag, where it’s been situated for centuries. Over the centuries, it has changed hands multiple times and is now a freehold, privately owned by a local family.
Following an extensive refurbishment, The Green Man Pub now boasts a fresh, revitalised look and a magnificent new beer garden. The pub is highly regarded for its fantastic selection of drinks, from local real ales to refreshing ciders, old favourites, and an extensive wine and spirits list. And if you fancy some grub, they serve delicious homemade, local, and fresh food. Plus, they cater to all dietary needs.
The Green Man Pub, where you’ll find a cosy fire and a sunny beer garden, making this the perfect place to relax, regardless of the weather.
Other Camping Experiences We Offer
We recognise that glamping isn’t for everyone, so if glamping isn’t your thing, we’ve got something different we know you’ll love. Siesta Chalet is located just a stone’s throw from the sea on the privately owned Eype Mouth Chalet Park in Dorset. This park is home to 15 chalets. Of these 15 chalets, most are individually owned, with Siesta being one of only a few currently available to rent.
Siesta Chalet is next to a gorgeous pebble and sand beach overlooked by impressive cliffs, including the Golden Cap. The Golden Cap is the highest cliff on the South coast, standing at around 191 metres above sea level. This stretch of coastline is of historical significance, as it’s part of The Jurassic Coast. You’ll find plenty of walkways here that offer stunning panoramic views and an opportunity to get a little exercise or walk the dog.
Eype Mouth Chalet Park is named for Eype, a small coastal village just three miles from the old market town of Bridport in Dorset. In Eype, you’ll discover a local pub called the New Inn, which serves a wide range of delicious dishes and a superb choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There’s even a seasonal shop for basic provisions.
And just one mile to the east, you’ll find a splendid, recently improved harbour in the small fishing village of West Bay, Dorset.
As for Bridport itself, there’s a supermarket and a full array of small-town shops. You can also book scuba diving, fishing trips, boat trips, and more from here. Plus, every Saturday, there are around 200 stalls that comprise the Bridport market. So, there’s plenty to discover.
Next to the Siesta Chalet sits two acres of grass, which is strictly for the chalet occupants’ use only. Siesta itself has two bedrooms – one double and one twin. It is also located at the top of the chalet park, so expect gorgeous views from your sitting room. There’s also a shower with a separate W.C.
